Sleep Paralysis The Living Nightmare – What When How and More

You open your eye’s and it’s the dead of night. You try to roll over and find yourself completely locked in place. As you start to panic you feel something pushing down on your chest and a presence in the room. You go to scream but your lips are locked in place and no sound will come out. You can’t move, you can’t speak, and you’re terrified.

That is the very real experience of people who have suffered from sleep paralysis.

Fortunately, there is a very real answer for what is going on while you experience these terrifying feelings. While sleeping your body goes through a cycle of sleep, from light sleep to deep and then REM sleep. REM sleep is the period where you normally dream, so to stop your body acting out the dream and possibly doing damage to you and those around you, your brain sends signals to your limbs which paralyzes them in place.

The problems occur when your sleep cycles get mixed up and you wake up during the REM cycle but your brain doesn’t catch up to tell you that it’s ok to start moving your body again. Not a nice feeling!

But as much as it’s not a nice feeling it is incredibly interesting, and as part of the mission here at The Dozy Owl to make sure everyone gets a good nights sleep I wanted to really look into sleep paralysis and see what I could find. I’m not a medical professional so consult your doctor before taking any advice given here. Check out the Table of contents below to jump to a specific section or just read it all the way through.

5 Insanely Simple Steps to Becoming A Morning Person (Infographic)

I’ve talked to a lot of people who struggle with mornings and many who don’t and I’ve figured out the 5 key steps that will transform you into a morning person.

Now, being a morning person doesn’t necessarily mean getting up at 5am for a 10k run every day. It just means that you can comfortably get out of bed every day without feeling like you want to die.

Now these 5 steps are simple and may not seem like they will have a big impact but trust me, they will be the beat of the butterflies wings causing the hurricane that shakes up your life, transforming you into your most badass self!

With that said let’s move on to the 5 steps that will help you become a morning person. I’ve made it into a handy infographic with more detail below. And if you have a blog you are more than welcome to use the infographic yourself just be sure to include a link back to The Dozy Owl!

Operation Morning Person Step 1. Hydrate

Becoming a morning person starts the night before, with a nice glass of water before bed because one of the main causes of morning fatigue is dehydration. Although you need less water while you sleep you’re still going for 8 hours or more without drinking anything, and sweating in your sleep is not uncommon so your body needs the water to keep running smoothly!

A glass of water will help fight this fatigue and help you wake up refreshed and ready, it’s often the reason that so many people wake up tired after a solid 8 hours of sleep. So make sure you’re having a glass of water before bed. Not so much that you wake up needing the bathroom through the night but enough to hold you over till the morning. It may take a while to find the balance but the difference in waking up is phenomenal.

Step 2. Breakfast

Eat your damn breakfast! So many people just skip breakfast and it’s absolute madness. How do you think your body is going to operate to it’s fullest if you don’t give it any energy for 12 hours? Let me tell you, it won’t!

Breakfast is what it takes to kick start your morning, every single morning person starts the day with their breakfast because it’s what your body and brain need to get into gear and kick that tired feeling. I sometimes start work at 7 am which means getting up at 5 but I still force myself to have breakfast while my co-workers who don’t all find themselves flagging by 9am while I can keep on powering through.

It really makes a huge difference so when your next food shopping be sure to buy some nice foods for your breakfast.

Step 3. The Alarm Clock – No more Snooze

The alarm clock has become a thing of the past but in the age of the smartphone, I think it has become more important than ever before. An alarm clock means you can leave your phone in another room or turn it off altogether, not sit scrolling through facebook for hours on end when you should be sleeping.

And don’t get me started on the snooze button! The worst thing you can do in the morning is hit the snooze button, waking up to turn your alarm off and falling back to sleep doesn’t give you any more rest. It simply disturbs your sleep resulting you being more tired by the time you wake up. So don’t gradually wake up for an hour, learn to hear your alarm and get out of bed.

You can do this by moving your alarm across the room so you have to get up to turn it off, or get an alarm clock so loud you can’t help but wake up! Here are a few of the Alarm clocks we recommend here at The Dozy Owl

Step 4. Get a consistent 7-8 hours of sleep

Now you need to optimize your sleep. Since you’re not using the snooze button anymore and wasting an hour of your sleep it’s time to optimize it so you get a consistent 7-8 hours every night. This is how much sleep your body needs and how much sleep you need to give it! You need to work out when to set your alarm each night, if you go to bed at the same time every night then you can wake up at the same time, but if like most people you don’t have a set bedtime you need to adjust your alarm every night.

Once your body gets used to the same length of sleep every night it becomes much easier to wake up in the morning which is a great step towards becoming a morning person.

Step 5. The Bedtime Routine

The final step of operation morning person is the bedtime routine. We know we need 7-8 hours of sleep but sometimes falling asleep can be difficult, not to mention the act of going to bed when there’s so much interesting stuff to be doing instead! Well I can tell you it can all wait.

So go to bed! A proper bedtime routine makes it easier to fall asleep, gets you to bed in good time to get enough sleep and so makes you wake up feeling fantastic. So you need to get yourself a bedtime or at least a window of time, say between 10 and 11, that you stick to as when you go to bed. You also need some way to wind down which could be reading, meditating, journaling or even a good skincare routine can be a great way to wind down and trigger that going to bed feeling.

You also want to make sure you have a properly prepared bed so well made, a tidy room and proper bedding like nice comfy pillows. This makes going to bed a much more pleasant experience helping you create a routine you can keep up for a long time letting you fully embrace the morning person you were born to be.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it!

5 easy actionable steps you can implement to start your journey towards becoming a morning person. If you can manage to make only one change the most important step is drinking enough water before bed. That is the step that you will see the biggest and fastest results from. Best UK Memory Foam Mattress – an Expert Buyers Guide

Memory Foam Mattress

Memory foam mattresses are held as being some of the best at helping to stop aches and pains. Aside from that, they’re damn comfy!

The problem is there’s a lot of information out there about the pros and cons of buying a memory foam mattress so actually choosing one is hard work.

Well, I’ve put this guide together to help cut through the noise and help you make an informed decision about whether a memory foam mattress is right for you. I’ve included some recommendations of the best memory foam mattresses at the end which you can check out.

What is memory foam?

Let’s start off at the beginning. Memory foam itself is what’s known as a visco-elastic material, once the jargons stripped away this just means that it becomes softer when it’s exposed to heat.

So when you lie on a memory foam mattress the heat from your body causes it to soften and mould around you. It was first developed in the 70s by Nasa as a seat material that could withstand trips to outer space! From there it became usable by the public and several scientists pioneered to get the comfortable memory foam mattresses we know today.
